Day 33
Went to Zhuo Dao Quan, Mid-Autumn Festival

Since there was nothing much to do in the hostel, we took a trip out to a new place called Zhuo Dao Quan, which is recommended by Gloria’s local friend. Heard from what Gloria had said, her local friends would usually shop there before the Grand Ocean Shopping Centre was built.

Upon arriving there, we saw a big board portraying a mouse and the word “老鼠街” (a.k.a. Mouse Street). However, as all of us were quite hungry, we had our dinner at the nearby restaurant first.

Basically, that place is similar to the Bugis Street in Singapore, except that most of the shops there are selling accessories, shoes and bags, rather than clothes. As we were split into two groups due to the big crowd, I end up going with Gloria, Rebecca, Yoke May, CK and Zhong Rong for shopping. As it was about the time to go, we realized that their bus service had ended at 9pm, which was a few minutes ago!

After taking the cab to go back to the hostel, I ended up with Gloria again. Hahas… All thanks to her, I had the chance to put the Kong Ming Lantern and celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival in China. :)

Reflection
I had a lot of “first times” today. First is the shopping with the group of girls, second is the celebrating of the Moon Cake Festival.

I guess being able to shop with them is kind of fun. These girls are really GOOD at bargaining for prices and they have their own ways to shop for things. Kudos to them, like seriously. I had never seen anyone like them who can beat the China uncles and aunties in bargaining. Hahaha!

It was a totally new experience for me to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival in China. They do celebrate it with fire crackers and Kong Ming Lantern, and they do eat pomelo and moon cakes. However, one thing is that their moon cakes here are mostly fruity in flavour, whilst I prefer the original flavoured ones. Aww… and looking at the full moon reminds me of my family in Singapore.
