Day 13Trip to East Lake, Hubei Museum, and Yellow Crane Tower
Early in the morning, all of us assembled the admin block to prepare for our weekend trip!
Led by our female tour guide named Lei Jing or preferably known as Xiao Lei, we went to the East Lake first, then the Museum in Hubei, and lastly, the Yellow Crane Tower.
East Lake:
At the East Lake, we saw a statue of Qu Yuan, and a small model of a Chinese instrument called the 编钟 (bian zhong). Nice garden by the lake scenery, but I suppose it did not really interest me a lot.

Hubei Provincial Museum:
Then, we went to this Hubei museum, and these historical stuffs really fascinate me a lot!!! We learnt about the ancient stuffs used during the Warring Period, and even the tomb of Marquis Yi of Zeng 《曾侯乙墓》.
Do you know that the Marquis Yi of Zeng has the same treatment as the emperor? This could be seen from the 2 burial gifts given by 楚惠王, Emperor of Chu. One of them was the 九鼎八簋 (jiu ding ba gui); and the other was a gigantic instrument known as 编钟 (bian zhong). In the past, 鼎 (ding) and 簋 (gui) were set up for a banquet during special occasions. The more the 鼎 (ding) and 簋 (gui), the higher the noble rank it symbolizes. Based on the record, 九鼎八簋 was only meant for the emperor use, whereas 七鼎六簋 was for the feudal lord, and so on. Henceforth, being able to use 九鼎八簋 when he is not an emperor signifies that his status could be as high as that of the emperor. Whereas for the 编钟 (bian zhong), it is the largest and heaviest instrument to be given. Imagine the manpower needed to move that 6500kg load into his tomb?

Hmm… Cool right?
Since we had some time left, Alvin, Eshlyn and I went to explore the other exhibitions in the museum. We went to the Hall of Yuxian Man (species of early Paleolithic Homo erectus, a.k.a early stages of human), etc. Hehe, we were so amazed by it until we realized that we were late for the next destination.
Yellow Crane Tower:
Being the most famous tourist attraction of Wuhan, yellow crane tower depicts its transformation from an army watchtower during the Three Kingdoms Period (220-280AD) in 223AD, to a reconstructed tower that contains modern lifts for the convenience of the tourists.
Reflections Just a visit to the museum makes my day. Especially with more than 5000 year rich culture and history of China, it really makes me widen my knowledge. Although some may think that going to museum might be a bore to them, I am sure that there will be other people from the rest of the world, will be interested to take a look.
To be truthful, I never really care about what is inside our national museum. It is only after I came to this Museum in Hubei, I then realized that history is always one of my favorite subject, and I am really interested to know more about how my ancestors actually lived in the past.
* P.S: I am so gotta to go back to the museum with my friends again!*
