Day 11
Happy birthday Ming Yu!

11 days after we came, we finally had our first IS lesson at 9am. We were taught by a female relief lecturer named Anna. I guess all of us liked to listen to her lecture because of her fluent English, it allows us to better apprehend the amazing history, local delicacies, attractions and strategic geographical location of Wuhan.

Back in our hostel room, we had our brain ‘cracked’ while doing Flexsim for almost the whole afternoon.
What I thought

At about 5.30pm, I went out with Xanier to sort of ‘distract’ Ming Yu with some of the guys, while the other group went to buy his birthday cake.

What really happen

At about 5.30pm, I went out with Xanier to distract Ming Yu with some of the guys, while the other group went to buy his birthday cake and intended to buy for me to celebrate my birthday in advance too.
Preparing

Not knowing anything

Polim and I played Frisbee with Ming Yu, but it seems that Ming Yu doesn’t really like the idea of chasing after the Frisbee. After going to the toilet with Eshlyn and Yoke May, I then realised that they are going to celebrate Ming Yu’s birthday and my birthday in advance.

Then...

Sudden attack! Subsequently after singing the birthday song, few of us went for a creamy war with our weapon – [whip cream] on hand.

So where were the rest? They went to play Frisbee with the intention of escaping from the attack.

But what is fun without people?
We waited for the rest outside the hostel, while some of them were indeed ‘lucky’ enough for us to ‘treat’ them the smashed cake that we had prepared for them. Hehe!

After cleaning up, we met some China students to discuss about the interaction events that we are going to have. Pluck mandarin orange + BBQ or going shopping + theme park? We chose to pluck mandarin orange + BBQ instead. Anticipating!

Reflections

At last, we are able to learn new stuffs about Wuhan, the place that we are staying.
I suppose we had fun throwing each other with the cakes’ whip cream? But while I was playing, I heard one guy saying to another guy that throwing whip creams like that is equivalent to wasting food. This brings up some of my thoughts…

In Singapore, we can see people not finishing their food simply because they felt that the food is not to their appetite. Even though I always try to finish my food, I admit that I am one of the people that are very fussy about how the food tastes and so on. Especially when I reached home from school late, 9 out of 10 chances that I would be complaining to my mother how plain the food tasted and why the soup tastes like water.

But now in Wuhan, almost everything I see is oily, spicy, or salty. Hardly can I ever see a bowl of fried rice that is not oily, or a plate of fried vegetables that is not spicy.

And I am glad that I have come to this trip, where it really makes me feel shameful for my actions, help me reflect on my mother’s effort in cooking healthier food for my family, and how I am used to my mother’s style of cooking – Home cooked food.
