Day 23
Outward Bound (A.K.A OBS)

Sigh, sigh, sigh. Outward Bound.

All along, I do not enjoy the outdoor activities part, especially for the activities that we will be having today – Rock-climbing and high elements.
Today’s OBS activities will be divided into two sections, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.

Because all of us looked tired in the morning, our instructor told us to massage one another as a warming-up activity. Following, each group had to discuss about the theme and the performance that we are going to perform.

As for the theme, we thought of Xanier. Since she is currently inside the school's dragonboat team and is the president of MDES, we decided to take some of the ideas and make ourselves as the “Dragon Tribe”. While thinking about the design for the flag, Adrian went up and helped to draw the replica of the picture on Xanier’s T-shirt. Lucky for us, I think we had the nicest flag.  However, because we spent too much time on the decorating of ‘clothes’ and drawing part, we had little time left to prepare for our performance. This time round, we had Chin Kuang to be the narrator and us, as the performers for the short skit. So, we came up with the actions on the spot in accordance to whatever CK narrated. HAHA! That was my first time doing such an impromptu performance!

Then, we finally started our first activity, which is the rock climbing part. Even though my friends had persuaded me to go and all of them had tried the rock climbing, I did not go. Especially watching people like Daniel and Mingyu, I knew that they were quite reluctant to go, but they tried. As for me, I did struggle a lot, yet I failed to overcome my fears. What to do? I could only stay beside Mr Loh and find ourselves a spot to sit down and watch.

At about 2pm, when we headed back to the OBS area, our instructor found ourselves getting more tired now. So we ended up playing “The Animal Game” that makes us exercise while competing against one another. Somehow, this game is similar as the “Scissors, Paper, and Stone”. Not wanting to lose out and suffer forfeit, all of us became awake and listened carefully according to the orders. Nice game~

Subsequently, we played “Trust Fall” and the high elements.

“Trust Fall” is a game that emphasizes on teamwork, coordination and of course, trusts. Although I managed to be the falling victim in this game, it is a pity that not everyone could play especially when the instructors were rushing for time.
Next, in order to make today’s OBS more worthwhile for me, I decided to try out the high elements. I didn’t believe that I actually went up to play. But it took quite some time…

Reflections

It was a day filled with mixed feelings for me. I am really glad that through this OBS, we are able to see how the others actually care for us. Each encouragement and actions here means a lot. In my case, I tried to overcome my inner fears and try out the high element activity. I was feeling alright until I climbed up and felt as though my heart had ‘fallen’ from the 20th Storey. Sorry guys if I did really take a longer time to complete that activity, and thank you guys for shouting up and supporting me in one way or another. I guess not everyone knows that the reason being for me completing that activity is also partly because of the instructor…
Thanks for rushing and asking me to come down. Without that, I can imagine myself getting stuck there for quite some time. XP

Haha… I supposed I said until it sounds like I am so terrible.

Overall, today’s OBS had really made me feel a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction. Even Mr Loh could not believe that I actually took up the challenge!
