Day 6
Lulin-Part 2

During the last day at Lulin, we went to the Lulinshan for mountain trekking. I thought it might be quite cold since it is a mountain, but it turns out to be the other way round.

The first stop for mountain trekking will be the 古兵寨. Heard from our tour guide, there was once a major farmers' strike happened about 2000 years ago at that area. During the strike, these farmers stayed at the mountain areas for quite some time. It is amazing to see how these farmers built their own group of armies and strategies to defend themselves from their enemies.

Almost everyone of us also tried sitting for a horse ride that cost us about ¥10 for one trip per person. **P.S: This ride is super value for money!

Horse rides. Anyone?

After the trip to 古兵寨, we went to the 通天洞 to have a look. There's a temple located there and I enjoyed breathing in the air from the goodness of nature. I love the air up in the mountains!

Reflections

After going to the 古兵寨, I realised that how brave and loyal the soldiers were, training everyday and night to prepare themselves to fight with the enemies. Things such as the routes to the soldier camp and civilian houses were well-planned early in the building stage so that the enemies would have a harder time coming in to attack, hence allowing more time for the soldiers to stand-by. Every single one of the soldiers were there for one reason, which is to protect their homeland and interests.

This makes me think of our own country's NE message: "We must ourselves defend Singapore".Once saw in a newspaper saying that a high percentage of Singaporeans are proud of being an Singaporean. But do we know whether that the Singaporeans are willing to defend of their own homeland that they are proud of? Are they able to be like the soldiers in the 古兵寨 that fought bravely for their homeland until the last moment? Well, these questions will be left for our fellow Singaporeans to think about.
